Doris Lessing was a British-Zimbabwean writer and the 11th woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. She was born in Iran in 1919 and was self-educated after leaving school at age 14. Lessing is regarded as one of the most important post-war writers in English and her works focused on 20th century issues like politics and race. Her novels include The Grass Singing, Children of Violence series, The Golden Notebook, and The Good Terrorist. She published over 50 novels in her lifetime before passing away in
