Windows XP Network Bridge Overview by yskdba is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Windows XP includes a Network Bridge feature that allows connecting two local area networks (LANs) that use different connection types, like Ethernet and wireless, without additional hardware. The bridge works at the data link layer to learn which devices are on each side and build an address table to efficiently forward traffic. It can connect LAN segments with different media as long as they use the same network protocol. To configure a bridge, select the connections to bridge from the Network Connections
