What is Cities in Flight: Four Volumes In One about?

This edition contains four related novels called collectively "Cities in Flight." A movie came out in 2018 called "Mortal Engines," about cities that ride on wheels and consume each other to survive. Well, the movie sounded very stupid but it reminded me of the "Cities in Flight" novels by James Blish. I bought this book club edition used and I enjoyed reading all 582 pages of the 4 novels: They Shall Have Stars, A Life for the Stars, Earthman Come Home, and The Triumph of Time. I read one of these when I was a kid, but I cannot remember which one, although it left a good impression on me. Reviewer Alastair Browne recommended skipping the first novel, "They Shall Have Stars," but I disagree. That was one of my favorite novels because he paints a fascinating picture of building structures in the atmosphere of Jupiter to experiment within the heavy gravity. The first novel shows how difficult it was to develop the technology called "Spin Dizzies" that allowed cities to lift off and fly. I liked this book very much. I read all 4 novels, enjoyed them, and recommend them as imaginative books. I reserve 5 stars for very few books like "Manifold Time" and "Manifold Space" by Stephen Baxte
