What is Fertilizer-free Cultivation of Wheat in Nutrient-deficient Soil by Treating the Seeds with Nanopyrite about?

A nanoagriculture approach is a futuristic farming strategy to achieve sustainable food production. Here, we propose one such nanointervention for growing wheat crop on nutrient-deficient soils by using nanopyrite (FeS 2 ) as seed bio-stimulant. We have studied the seed pre-treatment effect of nanopyrite on the yield of wheat grown in nutrient-deficient soil, without using any fertilizer. A low-temperature synthesis was adopted to prepare nanopyrite. Before sowing, we divided the seeds into two groups, namely control and test. We treated seeds in the control group with water, while we treated seeds in the test group with an aqueous suspension of nanopyrite (@50 μg/ml). The treatment time for both groups was 12 h. We monitored and analyzed the crop growth and yield, and observed an increase of 71.48% in grain yield upon nanopyrite seed pre-treatment; a significant increase in skillet area for the test (27.8 ± 1.9 cm 2 ) as compared to control (13.3 ± 1.2 cm 2 ), n = 10, p < 0.0001; and several-fold increase in than average root area of the test plants (8.4 ± 0.8 cm 2 , n = 9, p < 0.001) as compared to the control 1.6 ± 0.5 cm 2 . Finally, we found an increase of 10% in the germinati
