What is Understanding the Blast Furnace Process about?

The purpose of a blast furnace is to reduce iron oxides in iron ore into liquid iron called hot metal. Iron ore, coke, and limestone are fed into the top of a large, refractory-lined blast furnace while preheated air is blown into the bottom. Inside the furnace, coke burns and produces carbon monoxide which reacts with the iron ore, reducing it to molten iron. The limestone forms slag that floats on top of the molten iron, separating impurities. The liquid iron is then tapped off and transported to foundrie
