This study compared the effects of hypnosis versus midazolam for sedation during transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). 86 patients undergoing TEE were randomly assigned to receive either hypnosis (n=45) or intravenous midazolam (n=41) for sedation. Patients who received hypnosis had significantly less anxiety and better attention/alertness during the procedure compared to those who received midazolam, as measured by standardized anxiety and neurocognitive tests.
