A Structural Data Acquisition System by Edwin Adema is a scholarly article available to read on EtoBox.

What is A Structural Data Acquisition System about?

For structural testing of the External Tank element of the Space Shuttle Project, a generalized Data Acquisition System (DAS) was developed. The system is centered around 2 Varian V73 comanalog-to-digital converters. The 4 types od data input are deflections, pressures, load cells and strain gauges. Also, 4 self-test channels are included to verify the analog-todigital converters during testing. The software consists of 5 separate programs, two of which run concurrently during the structural test. One program acquires the data while the other is the operator interface. The other three programs create a test dependent data base from card input, obtain and store the initial condition, and finally list the results in a convenient form. Modifications required because of test experience are described, in addition to improvements to be made should a similiar system be created in the future.
