This study investigates the expression of two subtypes of vesicular glutamate transporters, VGluT1 and VGluT2, at parallel fibre-Purkinje cell synapses in the developing mouse cerebellum. It was found that VGluT2 is consistently expressed in climbing fibre terminals, while parallel fibre terminals initially express VGluT2 before switching to VGluT1 as development progresses. This subtype switching is linked to maturation processes in the cerebellum and occurs at both transcriptional and translational levels
