## Abstract This chapter introduces the subjects and key ideas of the book. It briefly introduces the Korean atomic experience and the many historical conditions that have led to the overwhelming quiet of “Korea’s Hiroshima.” It then turns to the possibility of doing ethnomusicology in the overwhelming absence of music, and the radical listening and the openness that this study models as an example of that. I define this version of the anthropology of music as studying culture musically. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the roles that expression and other arts play in the ongoing work of surviving the bomb.
