About this document
Understanding Type 2 Diabetes Mechanisms by Ellehcor Benwisan is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Insufficient insulin production from pancreatic beta cells combined with insulin resistance in muscles, liver and fat tissue causes type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, the liver inappropriately releases glucose into the blood due to insulin resistance suppressing glucose release. The degree of insulin resistance versus beta cell dysfunction varies between individuals. Other mechanisms associated with type 2 diabetes include increased lipid breakdown in fat cells and resistance to incretin hormones.
