What is Geostationary vs. Polar Satellite Orbits about?

Geostationary satellites orbit Earth at an altitude of 36,000 km, allowing them to continuously view the same spot on Earth and monitor hurricanes and storms. Polar satellites orbit at a lower altitude of 715 km and are able to view areas near the poles that geostationary satellites cannot. NOAA typically operates two geostationary satellites called GOES that focus on the East and West coasts of the US, as well as two polar satellites that view the morning and afternoon portions of Earth.
