Pisco is considered Peruvian for several reasons: 1. In Quechua language spoken by native Peruvians, "pisku" referred to birds that were abundant along the coast of Ica, which began to be known as Pisco. 2. Clay containers called "Piskos" were used by native Peruvians to store liquids like chicha and alcoholic beverages. 3. These clay containers became known as "Piscos" and were used to store grape brandy produced in the area, so the drink became known by the name of its container - Pisco.
