To check cam timing: 1. Use a degree wheel, dial indicator and timing pointer to measure the intake cam lobe lift on cylinder 1. 2. Rotate the crankshaft until the lift is at its maximum, then in both directions until it is .030" below maximum. Note the degree readings. 3. The average of the two readings indicates the location of maximum intake lift in degrees before top dead center (ATDC). Compare this to manufacturer specifications.
