What is Galectin-1 about?

This study investigates the role of Galectin-1 (Gal-1) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), demonstrating that Gal-1 promotes lung fibroblast activation and proliferation through the TGF-β/Erk1/2 and AKT pathways. Inhibition of Gal-1 using OTX-008 reduces fibroblast activity and extracellular matrix deposition, leading to improved lung histology and function in a murine model of lung fibrosis. The findings suggest that targeting Gal-1 may be a promising therapeutic strategy for IPF.
