What is Fumihiko Maki: Architect Biography & Works about?

Fumihiko Maki designed the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium complex in 1990. It consists of a large 120m diameter main arena with a curving double-leaf roof, a smaller sub-arena with a stepped blue-tiled roof, and an indoor pool building with a gently curving translucent roof that floods the interior with natural light. The complex uses bold curved and angular roof forms across its three buildings to create a futuristic sports center in Tokyo.
