The study investigates the dynamics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a soil-plant mesocosm experiment using 13C-labeled phenanthrene. Results show that while nearly 90% of the initial extractable phenanthrene dissipated within 21 days, over 40% remained in the soil as new compounds or incorporated into microbial biomass, with minimal uptake by plants.
