the Department of Political and Social Change (PSC) in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacifi c Aff airs, a part of the College of Asia and the Pacifi c (CAP). After a few days of orientation and administrative processing, in which they were ably helped by Jen Plaistowe, Bayu Dardias and Haula Noor, the group commenced their formal program. They met regularly with us (Greg and Sally) for fortnightly seminars in which they discussed their research, prepared their work for presentations at seminars, workshops and conferences, and worked on journal articles. They also were involved in fortnightly academic skills seminars run by Dr Thuy Do of ANU's Academic Skills and Learning Centre (ASLC), using a program specially tailored to meet their specifi c needs and capacities, and to track their progress over time. This also allowed the students to build a relationship with Dr Do over the course of the year. The group also received training from an ANU specialist in higher education pedadogy, Anna Buckley.
