What is Biochar about?

This study investigates the impact of biochar amendment on the biodegradation kinetics of ammonium enriched food waste digestate compost. The addition of 10% biochar significantly increased carbon decomposition by 44%, reduced ammonia emissions by 58%, and lowered ammonium nitrogen content to acceptable levels within 5 days. These findings suggest that biochar can effectively mitigate nitrogen loss and improve compost quality during the composting process of food waste digestate.
