What is David and Emma about?

David and Emma enjoy a romantic dinner where David plans to propose, but a mysterious vampire watches them. As the couple faces the vampire, they argue about who should sacrifice themselves, ultimately causing the vampire to lose interest and leave. The story shifts to Dr. Tomas Streyer, who accidentally causes the stars to disappear during an experiment, leading to his trial and a symbolic punishment of working at an observatory until he eventually sees the first star return after nearly nine years.
