What is Maharashtra Agricultural Land Ceiling Act about?

The Maharashtra Agricultural Lands (Ceiling on Holdings) Act of 1961 places a maximum limit (ceiling) on the amount of agricultural land that can be held in the state of Maharashtra. It provides for the acquisition of any land held in excess of the ceiling and its distribution to landless persons and others.
