THIS book contains reprints of the lectures presented at the 8th Colloquium on NMR spectroscopy, a NATO Adcanced Study Institute, held at the RWTH Aachen, from 14th to 20th April 1971. There are 24 papers, of which 14 are concerned with magnetic resonance and relaxation, and the others with theories of molecular motion in liquids or its study by mechanical or dielectric relaxation. Some of the papers are reviews, and others present new data; some are lengthy and detailed, others are quite brief. The flavour of the meeting can perhaps be illustrated by a few examples from the papers. R. Lenk discusses the interpretation of nuclear spinlattice relaxation times in elastomers and in glycerol, when co-operative molecular motion may be expected. He shows that the experimental results are not well described by the often invoked distribution of correlation times, but are in good agreement with the Hubbard. theory of relaxation by translational diffusion. E. 0. Stejskol gives an excellent review of spin-echo methods of studying diffusion in liquids, emulsions, polymer solutions, zeolites and living cells. The paper is particularly concerned with the use of pulsed field gradients in spin-ech
