What is The Roman inscriptions of Britain. Vol. II, Instrumentum Domesticum : Personal Belongings and the like. Fasc. 7, Graffiti on Samian Ware = terra sigillata : RIB 2501 about?
The latest addition to RIB II is devoted to graffiti on samian ware ( terra sigillata ), of which 879 examples have been collected. This large number, and the fact that samian sherds can usually be dated, provides a valuable statistical basis for the study of nomenclature, abbreviations, the growth of basic literacy and other epigraphic questions.
