What is CEDA about?

The Confederation of the Autonomous Right (CEDA) was a right-wing Catholic political party in Spain created by Jose Maria Gil Robles out of over 40 smaller rightist groups. Socialists accused CEDA of having fascist tendencies, which CEDA did little to deny. In 1934, CEDA caused a crisis by withdrawing support for the minority government, leading to a new cabinet including three CEDA ministers, fueling fears on the left of impending fascism and sparking the Asturias uprising.
