This research investigates the association between serum amino acids related to the urea cycle and the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The study found that high levels of citrulline and a low ratio of ornithine to citrulline significantly increased the risk of CKD. The findings suggest that these amino acids could serve as potential biomarkers for predicting CKD in T2DM patients.
