What is Burton 2019 about?

This study investigates the association between preoperative anemia and 30-day morbidity and mortality in patients with thyroid cancer undergoing thyroidectomy. Anemia was found in 12.5% of the 24,912 patients analyzed, with those affected experiencing significantly higher rates of overall morbidity (1.7-fold) and mortality (3-fold) compared to non-anemic patients. The findings suggest that optimizing anemia prior to surgery may be beneficial for this patient population.
