What is Effect of Soluble Phosphorus on the Mechanical Properties of α-Hemihydrate Gypsum about?
Preparation of a-hemihydrate gypsum crystal is an approach for utilization of phosphogypsum (PG), but the soluble phosphorus impurities in PG have a crucial influence on the performance of a-hemihydrate gypsum. In this article, different forms of soluble phosphorus (H 3 PO 4 , H 2 PO 4 À and HPO 4 2À ) on the setting time and mechanical properties of a-hemihydrate gypsum were studied, and the influence mechanism was clarified by x-ray diffraction (XRD), xray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the low-content of soluble phosphorus could prolong the initial setting time and final setting time of a-hemihydrate gypsum. The soluble phosphorus has a negative effect on the mechanical strength of a-hemihydrate gypsum; especially when the content of soluble phosphorus exceeded 0.1%, the bending strength and compressive strength decreased obviously. The effect of different soluble phosphorus on the mechanical strength was H 3 PO 4 > H 2 PO 4 À > HPO 4 2À . XRD and XPS analysis showed that the presence of H 3 PO 4 , H 2 PO 4 À and HPO 4 2À could respectively generate new species Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 , Ca(H 2 PO 4 ) 2 and CaHPO 4 in the har
