The Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were scheduled to sign a Memorandum of Agreement on the Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) that would establish an autonomous Bangsamoro homeland for the Bangsamoro people. However, the signing was halted by the Supreme Court due to petitions challenging the constitutionality and legality of the MOA-AD. The Supreme Court ultimately ruled the MOA-AD to be unconstitutional as it contradicted the Philippine constitution
