About this document
Understanding the Phase Rule in Chemistry by Sailee Patil is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The phase rule is an important concept that describes the behavior of heterogeneous systems in equilibrium. It was discovered by Willard Gibbs in 1874. The phase rule states that the number of degrees of freedom (F) of a system is related to the number of phases (P) and number of components (C) by the equation: F = C - P + 2. A phase diagram can qualitatively predict how changing temperature, pressure, and concentration will affect a heterogeneous system. It plots the conditions under which different phases
