What is Editorial about?

This meeting would not be possible without the authors' important scientific effort. The final scientific program of the conference included 23 invited lectures, 15 short oral presentations and 153 posters which were presented during the plenary and poster sessions by 160 scientists. The aim of the conference is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for scientists and engineers for an exchange of investigation results and experience in current achievements in growth of bulk crystals and nanostructures for application in opto-and electronic technology. The following topics were covered: crystal growth, characterization and applications of solid state materials, nanostructured materials and films and opto-and micro-electronic devices. Due to wide spectrum of the conference, the Scientific Committee of ICSSC-5 & PCCG-8 Conference decided to publish papers in two international journals: Crystal Research and Technology (CRT) and Opto-Electronics Review (OER). Finally, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to express our thanks to all authors and referees for their contributions to these proceedings.
