What is The Dog and His Shadow Fable about?

A dog was carrying a piece of meat in its mouth to eat at home. As it crossed a plank over a running brook, it looked down and saw its shadow in the water below, mistakenly thinking it was another dog with meat. When the dog snapped at the shadow, it dropped the real piece of meat it was carrying into the water, losing the substance by grasping at the shadow.
