This document describes a new genus of lichen called Thysanothecium. It has characteristics of both the Ramalina and Stereocaulon genera of lichens. The apothecia develop terminally on fronds and initially appear orbicular but later become lobed and flabellate. The genus is considered anomalous but shares similarities to other lichens found in the Australasian region where the specimens were collected, namely Western Australia
