In 1981, Sony introduced the first consumer camera to use a CCD sensor instead of film with the Sony Mavica, though images were still displayed on TV. In 1991, Kodak launched the first digital SLR camera, the DSC 100. While expensive, it allowed professional digital photography. Digital imaging uses an electronic sensor instead of film chemistry to capture images as electronic data, allowing for easier post-processing compared to film.
