About this document
Grain Refinement in Turbine Blade Casting by Caio Fazzioli Tavares is a document available to read on EtoBox.
This document describes a study on applying a grain refining inoculant only to the internal surfaces of ceramic cores, rather than the external surfaces of molds, during investment casting of hollow turbine blades made of nickel superalloys. Specimens cut from castings with coated and uncoated cores were analyzed. The macrostructures of specimens with an uncoated mold and core, or with an uncoated mold but a core coated in 5% cobalt aluminate, showed that grain refinement occurred throughout the thin walls
