The COVID-19 situation in Illinois is worsening, surpassing or nearing previous peaks from spring. Cases are 4.8 times higher than the peak in May, while hospital beds, ICU beds, and ventilator use are within 0.8-1.2 times of previous peaks. Models project that without additional mitigation, hospitalizations will continue rising through December, and deaths could be 5 times higher than the spring peak.
