Lorraine Bouthilet, former managing editor of Behavioral Science and former managing editor of publications as well as associate editor of the American Psychologist, died on May 5, 1984, in Washington, D.C. Dr. Bouthilet was born in St. Paul, the eldest of six children, and attended school in Minnesota, graduating from the University High School in 1933. In 1936, she received the B.A. degree in English, with high honors, from the University of Minnesota. She did her graduate work in psychology at the University of Chicago, receiving the M.A. degree in 1947 and the Ph.D in 1948. After she had completed writing the first draft of her doctoral dissertation, it was stolen from her car. There was no copy, so it was necessary for her to spend months rewriting it completely, a task she accomplished with her usual grace and good humor. Her dissertation topic was a comparative study of intuitive cognition in women and men. She maintained, and demonstrated quite objectively, that women made more intuitive decisions than men. Before
