What is Control for VTOL UAV Transitioning about?

This document describes a control approach for transitioning vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that can continuously vary their transition angle and are controlled by differential thrust. The approach uses an additional reference frame rotated by the transition angle to allow intuitive attitude control. Maps of flight characteristics are built and inverted for velocity control validation. Test flights up to a 70 degree transition angle validated the approach.
