Can I read Molecular Structures of Arsenic Trifluoride and Arsenic Pentafluoride as Determined by Electron Diffraction on EtoBox?
Molecular Structures of Arsenic Trifluoride and Arsenic Pentafluoride as Determined by Electron Diffraction by F. B. Clippard; L. S. Bartell is a Chemistry article available to read on EtoBox.
What is Molecular Structures of Arsenic Trifluoride and Arsenic Pentafluoride as Determined by Electron Diffraction about?
Arsenic trifluoride was found t o have a bond length of r, = 1.706 i 0.002 A and an F-As-F angle of 96.2 =t 0.2'. The bond angle is the smallest so far reported in the series of arsenic trihalides. This finding is contrary to the most frequently cited structure trend and requires the modification of a subrule of the valence shell-electrfn pair repulsion theory. The pentafluoride molecule was found to be a trigonal bipyramid with axial bonds 0.055 =! = 0.010 A longer than equatorial bonds and a n average Y, arsenic-fluorine bond length of 1.678 f 0.002 A; values for r,(As-F,,) and rg(As-Fsq) were 1.711 0.005 and 1.656 i 0.004 8, respectively. Root-mean-square amplitudes of vibration were determined and are discussed in the text. Uncertainties listed are estimated standard errors.
