This study examines factors related to children recanting or maintaining initial disclosures of sexual abuse. The study compares 27 child victims who recanted their initial abuse disclosure (Group 1) to 27 victims who maintained the veracity of their initial report (Group 2). All adverse social reactions after the abuse, including keeping secrets and a repressive family attitude, were higher among Group 1 victims compared to Group 2 victims.
