What is Sources of Hindu Law Explained about?
Hindu law has existed for around 6000 years and was originally established by people to help them attain salvation and fulfill their needs, rather than to punish crimes. It has two main sources - ancient sources like the Vedas, Smritis, customs, and commentaries; and modern sources like judicial decisions, legislation, and the principles of justice, equity and good conscience. The two major schools of Hindu law that emerged from ancient commentaries are the Mitakshara and Dayabhaga schools.
