In the past few years, many investigations of new or newly used procedures have been either devised or modified to cope especially with the many fastidious infective microorganisms and the widely encountered Enterobacteriaceae. Five new test chapters of the most widely used biochemical identifying procedures omitted in first edition of this book are added: cAMP test, (reaction), desoxyribonuclease (DNase) and thermonuclease combined, hippurate hydrolysis, Neisseria carbohydrate utilization tests, and starch hydrolysis. Five new appendices have been added to aid in media/inocula preparation plus indices since much of the material in various chapters overlaps.
