What is Child Survival in Developing Countries : Can Demographic and Health Surveys Help to Understand the Determinants? about?
"Child survival in developing countries addresses two issues. First, the question of data quality is explored, including results from an evaluation of the first 27 DHS surveys and from external validation of survey data. Problems associated with collecting data on childhood illnesses, causes of death, low birth-weight and child anthropometry are covered, among others. Second, do the data collected actually enhance our understanding? Here child spacing and maternal education - two of the most important determinants of child survival - are the focus. The Mosley-Chen framework for the study of child survival is used in DHS studies and many others; its limitations (and possible alternatives) are therefore an important part of the considerations."--Jacket
