What is obvious from Savage's meticulous, clear, penetrating and convincing study is how important TV was for all actors seeking to influence narratives and representations about the Northern Ireland conflict. Just how important those narratives will prove to be in addressing the legacy of that conflict is another question, but it is clear that the enduring TV images of Bloody Sunday, Enniskillen, Omagh and other atrocities continue to exert resonance and power in the public imagination and will no doubt influence approaches to how Northern Ireland should go about dealing with the past.
