The study aims to determine the effects of live and autoclaved yeast cultures on ruminal fermentation in vitro. Live and autoclaved yeast cultures were added to fermentation vessels containing a basal diet. Compared to the control, autoclaved yeast lowered pH while live yeast increased NH3-N and propionate production more than autoclaved yeast. Both yeast preparations stimulated fermentation, but live yeast had a more pronounced effect.
