What is Endocrine Cell Distribution in Tilapia Intestine about?
This study examined the effects of feeding and fasting on endocrine cells (ECs) in the intestine of Nile tilapia. The densities of ECs producing gastrin (GAS), cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8), neuropeptide Y (NPY), and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) were assessed in nine intestinal segments using immunohistochemistry. The densities of NPY+ and CGRP+ ECs increased in fasted fish, while CCK-8+ ECs were higher in fed fish. No effects of feeding or fasting were found for GAS+ ECs. Changes in EC densities only
