What is Does the Fixation Device Affect the Fixation Strength of the Tack in Laparoscopic Incisional Hernia Repair? about?

Background: In laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR), the fixation strength of the tack plays a crucial role, but there is a lack of clarity in terms of the role of the fixation devices on the tack. Our purpose was to investigate whether fixation devices affect the fixation strength of tacks. Further, we compare four different fixation devices, including the comparison of firing model, the comparison of shaft design, and the comparison of mechanical properties. Methods: The porcine abdominal wall was used as the experimental material to test the immediate fixation strength of four different fixation devices and 26 tests were performed on each fixation device. During the experiments, the mechanical performance indicators such as fixation strength, fluency, and accuracy of each fixation device were recorded and evaluated. Results: The fixation strengths of the SecurestrapTM (ST), ReliaTackTM (RT), AbsorbaTackTM (AT), and SorbaFixTM (SF) were 20.65±4.73N, 10.34±1.62N, 14.70±2.51N, and 12.07±1.94N respectively. The ST device had the best fixation strength (RT, p<0.001; AT, p=0.003; SF, p<0.001). When the fixation device is not used (8.21±1.33N, p<0.001), the fixation strength of th
