What is Numerical Aperture in Optical Fibers about?

This document describes an experiment to determine the numerical aperture of a multimode optical fiber. A diode laser is coupled into the fiber and the far field intensity pattern is measured using a pinhole detector at different distances. The diameter of the intensity pattern at 5% maximum intensity and the distance are used to calculate the acceptance angle, from which the numerical aperture is derived.
