This study analyzed data from the Kamuzu Central Hospital Acute Care Surgery Registry in Malawi from 2013 to 2019 to characterize intestinal volvulus and risk of mortality. The study found that intestinal volvulus accounted for 48.1% of mechanical intestinal obstructions seen, with sigmoid volvulus being the most common type at 57.7%.
