Can I read The Advocate on EtoBox?

The Advocate by Vinicius Flauaus is a document available to read on EtoBox.

What is The Advocate about?

The document discusses an article published in The Advocate in July 1979 that categorized different types of gay men and lesbians as different animals. It coined the term "bear" to describe some gay men. While some credit Richard Bulger with popularizing the term later, this document asserts The Advocate was the first to use the term in print. It reprints illustrations from the original 1979 article and comments from readers on the evolution of terms like "bear" over time.
