About this document
Active vs Passive Sensors Explained by DEMEKE BEYENE is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Sensors can be categorized as either passive or active. Passive sensors do not add energy to the measurement process but may remove energy, like a thermocouple which converts temperature to voltage without adding energy. Active sensors add energy to the measurement environment as part of the process, like sonar which sends out sound waves. Sensors can also be analog, providing a continuous output signal proportional to the input, or digital which provides a discrete output. Common sensors measure variables
