About this document
Overview of Smart Materials and Applications by DINESH is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Smart materials can exhibit piezoelectric, shape memory, or magnetostrictive properties when subjected to electric, magnetic, or thermal fields. Piezoelectric materials generate an electric charge when subjected to mechanical stress, and conversely generate a mechanical strain when subjected to an electric field. Common piezoelectric materials include PZT ceramics and PVDF polymers. These materials have applications in actuators, motors, generators, sensors, and medical ultrasound devices.
